MARC VON DER HOCHT (D) | Mash-Up Mistakes - Collages

Nach der Teilnahme Marc von der Hochts (*1980, Wilhelmshaven) an unserer Ausstellung „Berlin-based“ ist es uns ein Vergnügen, eine andere Facette seiner Arbeit zu zeigen. Im Prints and Drawings Room präsentieren wir „Mash-Up Mistakes“, eine Ausstellung seiner Collagen, die ebenso vielschichtig und präzise sind wie seine Gemälde. Während die Gemälde gänzlich seiner bildnerischen Kraft entspringen, greift er in den Collagen Versatzstücke der realen Welt auf, quasi als images trouvées. Diese werden auseinandergerissen, vermischt (mashed up) und neu sortiert. Dabei sind die Mash Ups prinzipbedingt noch schneller und dynamischer als die Gemälde, wenn auch ebenso (de)kontruktivistisch im Ansatz. Die Welt ist so schnell, dass wir sie kaum erfassen können, und dennoch müssen wir die Bilderflut in jedem Moment neu sortieren. Von der Hocht gelingt das mit visionärer Verve und edler Eleganz.

After the participation of Marc von der Hocht (*1980, Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin) in our exhibition „Berlin-based“ it is our pleasure to show another facet of his work. In the Prints and Drawings Room we present Mash-Up Mistakes an exhibition of his collages that are as multi-layered and precise as his paintings. However, while the paintings are sourced purely from his imaginary powers, he references the real world in his collages, found images so to speak. These are torn apart, mashed up and resorted. At this the Mash Ups are by nature faster and more dynamic than the paintings, yet as (de)constructivist in their approach. The world we live in is so fast we can hardly seize it. Nonetheless we have to sort through the flood of images anew in every moment. Marc von der Hocht does so with visionary verve and noble elegance.
